It's My Party I Can Cry If I Want To 

Artist Statement, August 2014

"When I think of masks I think of anger.  Anger to me is a difficult emotion.  Some use anger to mask how they are feeling.  Some mask their anger.  Birthday hats emphasize this idea.  At birthday parties people often mask their feelings and put on a happy face.  In this exhibition I have created 20 ceramic angry faces.  My heads may simply look like angry faces with birthday hats on but I see 20 people at a birthday party, and no one knows how they feel.  Maybe they want to cry.  It is their party after all."
